Hey there girls and boys,
Just got off the phone from Mum and Dad, and they asked if I could let you know how they are going. They wish they were on a better phone plan than they are with Telstra (but Telstra being what they are I don't think their mobile plans do get any better). Mum said she still gets her early morning free time so she will just have to get some of you out of bed some mornings when they have coverage. I think Telstra probably has the best overall coverage for them while travelling. (I just know how good my $49 vodaphone plan is and how much more I get on it than on our Telstra mobile - such a shame Telstra is so uncompetitive on these things.) She said please don't hesitate to call they love hearing from you all and being able to share their travels. I think they said they will have done about 1000k by the time they pull up tonight, then there is still 1000 till the border I think Mum said, and then about another 1000 to Alice. And then she thinks it is about another 800 to Bill and Lets from there.
They had a lovely camp their first night last night. Sorry, I did not catch where they stopped except that it was 'on the side of the road'. But they did stop in Mitchell for mass this morning, and there wasn't one, but they went to a service there instead. Mum talked of how the view from her bedroom last night looked out across a moon bathed landscape the archway of a tree trunk perfectly framing the picture. They enjoyed lots of wildlife, a mother Emu with 7 chicks I think it was, and another cluster of 11 emus all running along the side of the road, and later another mother Emu with a single baby chick.
They also saw lots of massive big wild black pigs - absolutely huge they said. (I remember praying like crazy for Mary or was it Edwina? or both? one night when they travelling out that way with one of our other sisters as they were in a little car and I was terrified they would hit one of them in the dark.) Anyway - Mum and Dad sound like they are truly enjoying themselves and the ease of their little camper set up.
Mum made me promise to tell Ellen (Shane Cooks beautiful partner) that "Jiggling Jesus" is still jiggling along nicely with them for the ride. Elle bought Jiggling Jesus - one of those springy little dash dolls for them for the camper for them when Bugs picked it up for them. When Mary and I borrowed the camper to head north one time - Jiggling Jesus went Flying out the window on the first few hundred metres of our travels - geez it's a bit of a bad omen when you're setting out on a trip and Jesus bails out of the car hey?! ...It was Mary driving...
Anyway Mum and Dad sound like they are enjoying themselves immensely. Dad is still trying to adjust things a bit to get the fuel thing going a bit more efficiently, but other than that they are stoked with their camper set up. Keep up the great prayer work guys - I know you will have all been on them for a great trip for them and they are certainly going beautifully so far.
Love to you all from Mum and Dad!
...and us Mulligrubs too.
Love Jo
